Book News

I finally have a new book to announce - this one is for 9-13 year olds! BEST FRIENDS FOREVER (Or Until Someone Better Comes Along) will be published by Simon & Schuster's Aladdin imprint in Fall 2013 (or Spring 2014...not totally sure yet)! I'm about half done writing it, and I'm having the best time with this book. Here's the official announcement from Publishers Marketplace:

Children's: Middle grade
Erin Downing's BEST FRIENDS FOREVER (Or Until Someone Better Comes Along), about a mean girl trying to change her reputation, to Fiona Simpson at Aladdin, by Michael Bourret at Dystel & Goderich Literary Management (world).

Writing from the POV of a mean girl is fantastic - you can literally say whatever you want (inside the context of the novel), and no one gets hurt (except fictional characters). I'm not a mean girl (at least, I hope I'm not!), but I do find it a little worrisome that it's been so easy for me to come up with the awful things my main character does and says in the story. I am trying to be extra nice to the people in my life while I write the story, just to make sure the snippy dialogue doesn't slip from the page to real life. I can't wait for people to read this one!
